We are in Spain!

After setting off on the bus at midnight yesterday and sending about 8 hours failing to sleep at the airport we are in Santiago and have our bus tickets to get to Astorga by half one tomorrow!



We had a couple of hours in Santiago finding food and also saw the Maunday Thursday parade






Unlike other Easter parades I've seen two of the icons were on wheels and were pushed


The other was carried


We're staying at albergue acuario as we have before 

As always upon arrival our bags exploded a bit!!

Hopefully I'll be able to find wifi tomorrow and update you then.

The Camino Primitivo

Symbols of the three main Christian Pilgrimages

The symbol of the Pilgrim to Santiago is the Scallop shell  of which many can be found on the coast of Galicia and it is actually a symbol of the Pilgrimage (and has become a symbol of other Christian Pilgrimages too) partly because you could find the shell easily there and so could go back home and show it off as proof that you had done the Pilgrimage. It has also been included in carvings in some Churches.
